the sophomore struggle
Unit life is a true test of one's character, not BMT or vocation training school.
You may argue that BMT is rigorous and brings out the true character of a person because he has been through tough times. But BMT is only at least 9 weeks long. The majority of a soldier's life is spent in his unit.
In my unit, life is not always sunny. In fact, in 365 days, it rains for 351 days (do your math and you'll know why). Umbrellas are never enough, because rain falls from above so heavily, you don't even have time to take them out. To make matters worse, we have mates who fall sick not because of the rain, but because their minds tell them to do so.
To err is human, but over here, mistakes can be fatal. One simple mistake can cause big problems to others. Already strained relationships also become worse.
I'm a person who imposes a lot of guilt upon myself whenever I commit something wrong, so if you come up into my face and f**k me, then so be it, I'll just take it, apologise, then KTHXBYE. Cos I know how to scold myself, I don't need anyone to do it for me.
Anyway my point is that I've gained a lot about how life is like through unit life, and I had to learn it the hard way 90% of the time.
